Hi welcome to my blog. My name is Lydia Carmen. I want to share with you my experiences when it comes to going back to school.

I decided to return to school when I was in my late thirties. I separated and was taking care of three kids on my own. I was making it as long as I continued to work 55 hours a week and stuck by a very rigid schedule. I would began my days by leaving the house with my three kids at 6am in the morning. That would give me plenty of time to get all three to either daycare or school. I would not take my lunch until 3pm, in which I would use that time to pick up all three again and take to a friend’s house. My friend/neighbor would watch all three until I returned at 8pm at night. On the weekends we all were so exhausted that all we could do was slip.

This routine went on for 2 years. Then one day, I looked at my youngest daughter and realized that I was missing everything. Every little thing she learned or felt, or thought, I was missing it all. That’s when I decided to go back to school. I was currently working in a factory, so I was standing on my feet all day. I decided to got to school to be an assembly line director. This position paid more and it was 40 hours a week. I would study on the weekend, which really cut down on my time with my kids, but I had to sacrifice.

It’s been 4 years now, and I have my bachelor’s degree. With help from numerous scholarships in the area, I was able to complete what I started! My job transferred me to another facility, where there was an opening. My kids and I had to relocate, which I didn’t mind at all. I consider the move as a new beginning.

Everything is so much better. I now work only 40 hours a week from 8-5. This makes a dramatic difference because we now have 3 hours more to spend with each other. The pay is a lot better and overall I am so glad that I made the sacrifice!

My advice to anyone that is considering going back to school, don’t just consider it, do it! Time is wasting!
